Province Approves Addition to the Hyland Heights ES to Strengthen Student Learning

Dufferin-Caledon: Today, the Ontario government announced it is investing over $500 million to build 30 new schools and make upgrades to 15 existing facilities.

The province has given the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) approval for an addition to Hyland Heights Elementary School. The investment will provide a new, quality learning environment for the students of Shelburne. This project is part of the province’s capital investment program to support students with better learning spaces.

“The funding for this addition to the Hyland Heights is great news for Shelburne. As one of the province’s fastest growing communities, creating new spaces in our schools to meet the growing need is important,” said Sylvia Jones, MPP for Dufferin-Caledon. “This investment will provide a quality learning environment and new opportunities for students, teachers and staff at Highland Heights.”

Ontario’s investment in new and updated schools will create the foundation for a modern learning environment for hundreds of students across the province. This investment will also generate nearly 900 new licensed child-care spaces.

“From modernizing our curriculum to revitalizing our classrooms and their facilities, we are investing in our students and giving them every tool to achieve their full potential,” said Education Minister Stephen Lecce. “Our financing of the addition to the Hyland Heights Elementary School further demonstrates our government’s historic investment in Ontario’s schools and our overall commitment to supporting our students and families.”

Highlights of the addition include:

  • 92 new elementary student spaces (510 total)

“The announcement of funding for the addition to Hyland Heights Elementary School in Shelburne is wonderful news,” said UGDSB trustee Lynn Topping. “Thank you to the Ontario government and to MPP Sylvia Jones for recognizing the needs of Shelburne and the Upper Grand District School Board, and for continuing to support the constant and consistent learning of the students in our area.”

Hyland Heights Elementary School is located at 200 Fourth Avenue in Shelburne.
