ORANGEVILLE – MPP Sylvia Jones welcomed Solicitor General Michael Kerzner, Mayor Lisa Post, members of Dufferin-Caledon Fire crews and community members to Orangeville on Friday morning to officially unveil the new site for the Ontario Firefighters’ Memorial.
The announcement officially named Orangeville as the future site of the memorial, honouring the late Volunteer Firefighter Dan Little, who proposed the idea and spearheaded the fundraising effort.
“This memorial will have a new home and continue to mark the sacrifices firefighters make in communities across Ontario every single day protecting our lives and property,” said Sylvia Jones, MPP for Dufferin-Caledon. “Thank you to the Little family for bringing this memorial home to Orangeville.”
Dan Little, the driving force behind this memorial, was both a volunteer firefighter in Orangeville for more than four decades and a longtime Dufferin County resident.
“Orangeville Fire Services is honoured and excited to welcome the Ontario Fire Fighters’ Memorial to its new home in our community. This meaningful tribute recognizes the service and sacrifice of firefighters across Ontario,” said Fire Chief John Snider, Orangeville Fire Services. “We are especially grateful for the leadership and vision of the late Dan Little, a former Orangeville volunteer firefighter who conceived the idea for this memorial and served our Orangeville community with dedication for 40 years.”
“Orangeville is deeply honoured to become the new home of the Ontario Fire Fighters’ Memorial. This memorial is an important tribute to the courage, service and sacrifice of firefighters across our province, and we are proud to help preserve that legacy for generations to come,” said Mayor of Orangeville Lisa Post. “It’s connection to Orangeville makes this especially meaningful, as our own Dan Little was instrumental in bringing the memorial to life nearly four decades ago. It truly feels like it is coming home.”
Thanks to the Little family, families across Ontario will continue to have a place to pay their respects and honour their loved ones for years to come.
“Firefighters put their lives on the line every day to protect our families and communities, and we owe them an enduring debt of gratitude,” said Solicitor General Michael Kerzner. “It is fitting that the Ontario Firefighters’ Memorial will have its permanent home in Orangeville, where Dan Little served as a volunteer firefighter for four decades and worked tirelessly to make this memorial a reality. This memorial will ensure the service and sacrifice of Ontario’s fallen firefighters are remembered for generations to come.”
The Ontario Firefighters’ Memorial is set to arrive in late 2026 and will be located in Fendley Park at 11 Fendley Road in Orangeville, Ontario.
