Ontario Investing in Public Transit in Orangeville and Caledon

April 28, 2026

DUFFERIN-CALEDON – Our government is continuing to support local transit systems by providing gas tax funding to municipalities across the province, including investments in the Town of Orangeville and the Town of Caledon.

For the 2025-26 year, this funding will help municipalities in Dufferin-Caledon maintain and enhance transit services for residents:

  • The Town of Caledon: $568,726
  • The Town of Orangeville: $294,473

“Our government is committed to supporting municipalities as they grow and improve local transit,” said Sylvia Jones, MPP for Dufferin-Caledon. “This funding will help Orangeville and Caledon continue to provide reliable and accessible transit options for residents, connecting people to jobs, services and opportunities in their communities.”

“I would like to thank MPP Sylvia Jones and the Province for their support,” said Mayor Annette Groves of The Town of Caledon. “The Provincial gas tax helps us enhance our transit options, including a pilot project with electric minibuses.”

“The Town of Orangeville appreciates this continued investment through Ontario’s Gas Tax program,” said Mayor Lisa Post of The Town of Orangeville. “This funding will help enhance local transit services that residents rely on every day to access work, school, appointments and community amenities. Strong partnerships between municipalities and other orders of government are essential to building complete, connected and resilient communities. Investments like this help municipalities maintain accessible, reliable and sustainable transit options as our communities continue to grow.”

Ontario’s Gas Tax program provides municipalities with predictable, long-term funding to support and expand transit systems. Funding is determined based on the number of litres of gasoline sold in the province during the previous fiscal year, as well as local ridership and population levels.

Municipalities can use this funding to extend service hours, purchase transit vehicles, add routes, improve accessibility and upgrade transit infrastructure.

By investing in public transit, the Ontario government is helping communities stay connected, reduce congestion and support local economic growth.
