Ontario Expanding Ability to Process Cancer Fighting Medical Isotopes

NEWS: Today, Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Electrification, alongside Parliamentary Assistants John Yakabuski and Rudy Cuzzetto and together with Bruce Power, announced a transformative investment that solidifies Ontario’s role as a leader in clean energy and medical innovation. The construction of a new hot cell facility at Bruce Power will allow Ontario to process the cancer-fighting medical isotope lutetium-177 right here at home, supporting treatments for the more than 247,000 Canadians diagnosed with cancer each year. By repatriating medical isotope processing to the province and building provincial capacity to process the isotopes produced at our nuclear stations, Ontario is cementing its position as a leader in this cutting-edge medical field.

This initiative will help ensure Ontario families benefit from clean, affordable energy and life-saving healthcare advancements—proving once again that our PC government delivers where the Liberals fell short. This critical investment in Ontario’s energy independence and healthcare capabilities comes as our electricity demand is projected to increase by 75% by 2050. While the former Liberal government burdened Ontarians with expensive, failed energy policies, our government is focused on ensuring a brighter, healthier future.
