News Release – Ontario PCs’ $1.9 Billion Mental Health Commitment

(Queen’s Park) –Sylvia Jones, MPP Dufferin-Caledon questioned the Deputy Premier on the mental health crisis in Ontario and called on the Liberal government to match the Ontario PC’s commitment to invest $1.9 billion in mental health services, the largest investment in mental health in Canadian provincial history.

“Ontario has a gap in its health care system. Too many people are sitting on waiting lists and waiting for the mental health treatment they need,” said Jones.

“There is a mental health crisis in Ontario and that is why Patrick Brown and the Ontario PC Party committed $1.9 billion over 10 years to support mental health services. This will be the largest mental health commitment in Canadian provincial history,” said Jones.

“Rob Jamieson, President of the Ontario Provincial Police Association reacted to our People’s Guarantee saying, “Great to see such a commitment to mental health. We need to invest more for those in crisis and those requiring… support,” said Jones.

“Kimberly Moran, the CEO of Children’s Mental Health Ontario says, “So pleased to see topping up elementary and secondary school supports for services targeted at improving mental health and well-being, including funding awareness campaign as part of the (People’s Guarantee),” said Jones.

“Will the Liberal government match the PC Party’s historic commitment to mental health in Ontario?” asked Jones.
