News Release – Jones: Questions Minister on Lack of Supports in School for Children with Exceptionalities

(Queen’s Park) – Today, Sylvia Jones MPP, Dufferin-Caledon called on the Minister of Education to review special education funding as recommended in the report released by the Ontario Autism Coalition.

“We all know about the challenges children with autism face when they transition into school. They sit on a waiting list for a psychological assessment to get their Individualized Education Plan (IEP), and even with an IEP they wait for an educational assistant to support them in the classroom,” said Jones.

“Earlier today the Ontario Autism Coalition released a report that recommended a review of the funding of special education in Ontario schools,” said Jones.

“That is why I asked the Minister of Education to commit to review special education funding to ensure that students with exceptionalities get the help they need,” said Jones.

“I will continue to call on the government to provide the service children with autism and other exceptionalities in Ontario’s schools deserve,” said Jones.
