News Release – Jones Calls on Premier to Justify the 1000% Increase in CCAC CEO’s Compensation

(Queen’s Park) – Today, Sylvia Jones MPP Dufferin-Caledon asked the Premier to justify the unacceptable raise in compensation of the CEO of Central West Community Care Access Centre (CCAC).

“The Sunshine List revealed the salary and benefits of the CEO of the Central West CCAC. Her benefits for last year were almost $20 000- up an incredible 1000 per cent.” Jones said.

“The Auditor General has already reported that 39 cents out of every dollar spent at our CCAC’s goes to administration instead of front-line services,” asked Jones.

“After the Auditor General’s scathing report, the Minister of Health recognized there was a problem and wrote a letter to all CCACs telling them ‘not to enhance compensation or entitlements for non-union and management staff in any way, including wages, benefits, bonuses and termination provisions.’ Clearly the Central West CCAC ignored his direction,” Jones said.

“The Premier tried to justify the massive salary increase by saying that there is a salary cap.  The salary cap appears to be ineffective since the CEO of Central West CCAC continues to receive raises in her benefits,” Jones said

“The Premier needs to explain why the CEO of Central West CCAC deserve this massive compensation while people sit on waiting lists for vital services,” Jones said
