Making Life More Affordable

During the Fall Economic Statement our government created the Low-Income Individuals and Families Tax Credit (LIFT) that will provide a generous tax cut for low-income workers in Ontario. This tax credit started on January 1st, 2019.

The LIFT tax credit is one of the most generous tax cuts for low-income workers in a generation. This will leave more money in the pockets of taxpayers across Ontario. The tax credit is a boost for people that need it the most across Ontario.

Individuals earning $30,000 or less will not pay provincial income tax on their 2019 tax returns. The LIFT tax credit allows for a maximum of $850 in savings per individual and $1,700 in savings per couple.

Approximately 1.1 million people in Ontario will benefit from LIFT. Additionally, there will be graduated income relief for those earning over $30,000 per year on a graduating scale.  Graduated income relief will provide some tax relief for Ontarians that do not qualify for the for the full LIFT tax credit.  Changes to the provincial income tax table is a tangible example of how our government is making life more affordable in Ontario.

This tax credit will support low-income wage earners to help pay for groceries, fuel, childcare, and other living expenses. Our government is committed to supporting the needs of workers across Ontario.
