JONES DOESN’T STOP THE FIGHT TO RESTORE IBI THERAPY FOR KIDS OVER 5

(Queen’s Park) – Today, Sylvia Jones MPP Dufferin-Caledon again highlighted stories of families being impacted by the Minister of Children and Youth Services’ decision to remove children over the age of 5 from receiving Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) therapy.

“Today I shared the story of Chelsea and her son Charlie who has been told earlier this month that he will no longer receive IBI therapy as of September. This is just in time for school, but the problem is Charlie isn’t ready for school,” Jones said.

“Charlie hasn’t met half of his developmental goals as set out in his Individualized Service Plan and now he is expected to go to school in September without the tools he needs to succeed. Charlie is being set up to fail. It’s not right and it’s not fair,” Jones said.

“The Minister continues to say this is a myth, but what she doesn’t realize is this is coming directly from parents who are telling me their child’s service is being terminated,” Jones said.

“I will continue to pressure the Minister to reverse her decision to remove children over the age of 5 from accessing IBI therapy and develop a coordinated provincial autism strategy,” Jones said.
