Investing in Mental Health and Addictions for Dufferin-Caledon

Dufferin-Caledon – MPP Sylvia Jones and Minister of Health and Long-Term Care Christine Elliott announced more mental health and addiction services across the province on May 6th, 2019. The Ontario Government is focused on fixing the fragmented mental health care system to get Ontarians the support they deserve.

“Dufferin-Caledon will receive $180,000 for Salvation Army Hope Acres in Mulmur and up to $90,000 for Dufferin Child and Family Services focused on Community Addictions Services,” said MPP Sylvia Jones. “This is great news for Dufferin-Caledon families and patients who are struggling to access the care and services they need.”

Ontario is investing $174 million to address gaps in the current system by providing necessary mental health and addictions services on the ground, in schools, communities and health care centres across the province. $30 million of this funding will be provided for child and youth mental health services and $27 million will be allocated to mental health supports within our education system.

“Our government is keeping our promise to make mental health and addictions a priority,” said Minister Elliott. “That’s why we’re taking a cross-government approach to solving Ontario’s mental health and addictions challenges. This funding will go directly towards services for patients and families and help reduce wait times, enhance opioids and addictions services, create additional housing, build capacity in child and youth mental health, support our men and women in uniform and add services for seniors, Francophones and Ontario’s Indigenous people.”

This announcement is part of the $3.8 billion investment Ontario will make over 10 years to develop and implement a comprehensive and connected mental health and addictions strategy. The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care currently funds 380 mental health and addictions programs in Ontario.
