Getting Married? Caledon Now Providing Online Licence Application to Make Life Easier for Engaged Couples

ServiceOntario Pilot Program Expands to More Municipalities

Dufferin-Caledon – The Ontario government is making life easier for people getting married by putting marriage licence applications online as a ServiceOntario pilot program in Caledon.

“This latest expansion of our Marriage Licence Online Application will make it easier and more convenient for Ontario couples to get married than ever before,” said Todd McCarthy, Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery. “This is just one of the many examples of our government’s commitment to build simpler, faster, and better to use services that save Ontarians their precious time and effort.

Now, soon-to-be-married couples can apply for a licence online through a secure portal and submit their identification and supporting documentation electronically, before picking the licence up in-person.

Municipalities issue provincial marriage licences. Using the new system, couples can submit their documents electronically to the participating municipality. The municipality ensures the application is correct and complete and then the applicant can pick up the licence. The online process minimizes risk of errors, is efficient, saves time and reduces paper for the municipality and the applicant.

“Improving the customer experience is important to the Ontario government,” said Sylvia Jones, MPP for Dufferin-Caledon. “I’m pleased that Caledon was chosen to participate in the pilot, providing a great experience to soon-to-be-married couples here, and being part of a project that ultimately, will benefit couples across the province.”
