NEWS RELEASE

DUFFERIN – In celebration of Seniors Month, MPP Sylvia Jones is pleased to announce that Active Aging Canada Inc. has been selected through Ontario’s 2025-26 Seniors Community Grant Program to deliver an exciting new initiative for older adults in Dufferin County.

“This investment will make a meaningful difference to seniors in Shelburne and throughout Dufferin County,” said MPP Sylvia Jones. “Older adults in rural areas deserve equal access to programs that support health, social connection and lifelong learning.”

The Ontario Recreation for Older Adults in Rural Ontario project will provide accessible, senior-focused online programming to help reduce isolation and improve the quality of life for older adults living in remote or rural areas. With many seniors in rural communities facing barriers to in-person programs, this online initiative offers a much-needed connection to social and recreational activities, all from the comfort of home.

“Older adults living in rural areas have unique challenges in accessing social and recreational opportunities.  Active Aging Canada is pleased to partner with ‘Art Your Service’ to offer the option of online programming to older adults living in rural areas of Ontario.  Our goal is to work with community partners to provide a way for Seniors to stay socially connected via a vibrant Seniors-oriented online community.”

Participants will benefit from live virtual events, fitness classes, interactive games, and access to a safe and engaging online community tailored specifically to their needs and interests.

The Seniors Community Grant Program funds community-based projects that promote healthy aging and allow seniors to remain engaged in their communities. The Shelburne project underscores the province’s commitment to ensuring that all seniors have opportunities to thrive.
