Congratulating Graduates for their Accomplishments

June is an exciting month for young people as they mark a transition from their elementary or high school. Parents, friends and family coming together to celebrate achievements and looking forward to exciting new opportunities. I often have a front row seat at graduations across Dufferin-Caledon and see the pride in accomplishments and memories. But school graduations are only part of the story.

Cadets undergo a wide range of training for aviation, sailing, naval communication, air traffic control, and field exercises. I am proud to celebrate the accomplishments of Dufferin-Caledon’s Air Cadets from the 85 Tornado Squadron in Grand Valley, the 892 Snowy Owl Squadron in Caledon and the 164 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in Shelburne. Dufferin-Caledon’s Air Cadets are trained in air navigation, marksmanship, airmanship, aircrew survival, first aid, and much more. Cadets also undergo fitness testing, survival, and leadership training. The numerous hours that our Cadets have spent training and their achievements that followed were celebrated at the Annual Ceremonial on June 8th.

On Saturday, the achievements of the 253 Crescent Bolton Sea Cadets were recognized in their annual review. Sea Cadets undergo impressive naval training, including marine engineering, meteorology, sailing, and naval communications. The immense accomplishments of the 1849 Lorne Scots, a Primary Reserve infantry regiment of the Canadian Army, were also celebrated at their annual review on June 9th. I am proud of all the Cadet units that serve our community and to the graduating cadets who were honoured.

Over the past number of weeks, as Ontario’s Solicitor General, I have had the pleasure of attending a number of graduations for Ontario’s newest police officers including the Toronto Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police and correctional officers who have completed their training and will be serving in communities across Ontario. Police and correctional officers are critical to community safety in Ontario. We are grateful for all of their sacrifices in maintaining safety across our Province. Our government is dedicated to ensuring that our police and correctional officers are provided with needed supports.
