Caledon Projects Receive Provincial Support to Promote Wellness and Connection.
NEWS RELEASE
CALEDON – In honour of Seniors Month, I am happy to announce that two extraordinary Caledon-based initiatives have been approved for funding through Ontario’s 2025-26 Seniors Community Grant Program. These investments will help older adults in Caledon live healthier, more connected lives.
“These projects reflect Caledon’s commitment to supporting seniors and building inclusive, vibrant communities,” said Sylvia Jones, MPP for Dufferin-Caledon. “As we celebrate Seniors Month, I am proud to see these local organizations leading the way with innovative and compassionate programming.”
The Town of Caledon has received a grant for its Living Well: Mental Health and Aging in Place Project, which will deliver two workshop series and four lunch-and-learn sessions for up to 300 participants. In partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), the program will focus on building mental wellness, social connection and community resilience among seniors. Participants will also learn how to support others facing mental health challenges, helping foster a more compassionate and informed community.
“Supporting older adults in living healthy, independent lives is a key priority for the Town of Caledon. The Living Well: Mental Health and Aging in Place Project is a meaningful initiative that not only provides practical tools and education, but also creates opportunities for connection and community. We’re proud to partner with CMHA Peel Dufferin to support mental wellness and help our seniors thrive at every stage of life.” – Mayor Annette Groves
Caledon Meals on Wheels has also been awarded a grant for its Connecting Seniors to Community Wellness initiative. This program introduces “social prescribing” – a wellness strategy that connects approximately 40 seniors with tailored cultural, social and recreational programs. A dedicated Community Connector will work closely with local organizations and service providers to design personalized plans that reduce isolation, improve well-being, and promote a strong sense of belonging.
“We are incredibly grateful for this support from the Seniors Community Grant Program. This funding allows us to bring new opportunities for social connection, health promotion, and community engagement to seniors in Caledon and Dufferin. At a time when many older adults continue to face isolation and barriers to access, this grant helps us reach more people and provide programs that truly make a difference in their daily lives.” – Kim Rodrigues, Executive Director, Caledon Meals on Wheels
The Seniors Community Grant Program supports projects that help older adults stay active, connected, and healthy in their communities. This year’s initiatives in Caledon demonstrate the power of local partnerships and the province’s continued investment in seniors’ well-being.
