Greenbelt Expansion Consultation

I want to make you aware of a proposal to expand the Greenbelt throughout Dufferin-Caledon including: Melancthon, Mulmur, Mono, Amaranth, and East Garafraxa.

The proposal includes a significant portion of these municipalities as being studied for Greenbelt expansion. The Minister of Municipal Affairs identifies the intent of this expansion as to protect ecological and hydrological features like moraines, wetlands and coldwater streams.

As you may already know the Greenbelt plan prohibits significant urban development and expansion of settlement within its boundaries. If this proposed expansion takes place, the plan will impact how your municipality is able to plan development, growth and infrastructure and resource development projects. I believe it is important that you have had a chance to review the proposal and make your comments known.

That is why I wrote to the Minister of Municipal Affairs on December 11th to demand that he hold an open house in Dufferin-County. Please find a copy of my letter attached. I am pleased to report that the Ministry has agreed and will be hosting an Open House on February 8th in Orangeville from 5:30pm to 8:00pm at the Tony Rose Memorial Sports Centre (6 Northmen Way, Orangeville, ON L9W 3B2).

If you are not able to make it to the open house to learn about the proposed expansion, I encourage you to visit the Environmental Registry to learn more about the government’s proposal here. If you do submit comments, please be sure to copy me on your email.
